Branch Lines of South Devon
This
section of the website plans to explain the history of some of the
closed branch lines in South Devon. During the Late 1950's and into
the 60's many Branch Lines were closed under the 'Beechings' act
towards the end of Steam. This was due to many of them costing far
more to much to keep open; they therefore were making losses and it
was decided that they were not worth keeping open due to low
passenger numbers. Some of these lines include the Brixham
branch,
Kingsbridge branch, Ashburton Branch and the
Moretonhemsted Branch.
